The Book Thief

This is my first full orchestral piece, composed for an opportunity I was generously afforded by the Australian Society of Music Educators (ASME) - to have a piece performed by the Canberra Youth Orchestra at the 19th national ASME Convention in September. For this opportunity, I decided to orchestrate my imaginary film score for 'The Book Thief' - one of my favourite books of all time. The piece, which could otherwise be titled 'Death’s Theme,' essentially explores the narrator’s internal conflict between wanting to appreciate the beauty in life and recognising the grim reality of his duty.

I was very fortunate to also be able to conduct my own piece, and I found that in itself a highly education experience.
